Defending the CBC

Dear CBC,

I am sorry to hear of your most recent challenges with government funding, or the lack thereof. In fact, if memory serves correct, this de-funding has been an ongoing process with our current ruling party since they were elected into power.

Despite government efforts to eliminate the CBC you have continued to create entertaining, educational, and dare I say, important, Canadian programs.

To name a few: Murdoch Mysteries, Still Standing, Schitt's Creek, X-Company, Artic Air, 22 Minutes, Rick Mercer, Fool Canada, CBCNN, and so many more. And, I have not even mentioned Radio Canada or the numerous radio programs you produce.

I am particularly fond of the news programs. Professional, accurate, and objective.

The CBC may be forced to become a more-commercial broadcaster...ie. make a profit for its largest investor, the federal government. Then again, Canadians, as a whole, invest in government with our tax dollars. We are the investors for the Canadian Government, therefore are entitled to have a say in what happens to the CBC.

The upcoming election may, or may not, bring with it a new party to power. In any event, I will do what I can to help the CBC survive.

Signed,

Daisy Chain, Canadian!
