Fear...
Prime Minister Harper has based his campaign on fear. Canadians are to fear terrorism, fear the possibility of leadership change, and, fear the unstable economy. And, so on...
I took the liberty of reviewing our national anthem as posted on our government's website. No where is the word "fear" mentioned. Canada was not, and is not, a fearful nation, or peoples.
O Canada
OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM (English version)
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
One "fear" I do have is Stephen Harper himself.
He has surrounded himself with an untrustworthy and dishonest group of supporters and associates. Many of whom have their own agendas outside the best interests of the Canadian electorate.
The use of "fear" in a campaign is desperate, and as old as the hills. Many a leader has used this tactic to regain control of a country, a corporation, even a family.
Real leaders do not instill fear to move a nation. Leadership takes compassion, honesty, good morals, ethics, truthfulness, judgement of character, and leading by example.
With all that said, my second "fear" is that Canadians will remain complacent and re-elect Mr. Harper.
